Heritage, Dakar or Dakar X: which STC L200 edition is right for you?
Staffordshire Truck Company builds the Mitsubishi L200 K74 in six editions. The Heritage (from £21,995) is the standard-height original; the Heritage X (from £23,495) adds a lift, off-road wheels and rock sliders; the Dakar (from £24,995) is the lifted, snorkelled adventure truck; the Dakar Camper puts a pop-top camper on it, priced per build; the Dakar Pro (from £26,995) adds a winch bumper, 7 ton winch and Polyurea tub; the Dakar X is a full wide-body custom, priced per build. All six share the same rebuild and the same 161 bhp Red Top Spec 2 engine.
Heritage and Heritage X: the truck as Mitsubishi meant it
The Heritage Edition is the base of the ladder and the starting point for every other edition. Standard ride height, correct lines, any colour, or two-tone at extra cost, refurbished OEM alloys or pro steels to order. It is the one to choose if you want a K74 that looks like a K74, rebuilt to a standard it never had from the factory. From £21,995.
The Heritage X is the Heritage with a lift, off-road wheels, rock sliders and diff locks front and rear. Porsche Red over Mercedes Silver Arrow is the paint customers keep asking for. Pro steels with Cooper mud terrains, or OEM alloys. From £23,495.
Dakar and Dakar Pro: the adventure trucks
The Dakar Edition is the one most people picture when they think of an STC truck: suspension lift, snorkel, roof light bar, side steps and Cooper mud terrains on pro steels. Built for green lanes and camping without turning into something you cannot use on a Monday morning. From £24,995. Colour, lift height and wheel package are specified per build.
The Dakar Pro takes it further for heavy-duty work: an outback winch bumper fabricated in house, a 7 ton remote winch, a Polyurea-lined tub and an uprated suspension lift. It is built to order as slots come up. From £26,995.
Dakar X: the flagship, no two the same
The Dakar X is a full wide-arch conversion, fabricated in house, with suspension and wheels specified to the use and a bespoke interior in leather, colours and trim to order. Roll bars, bumpers, camper conversions and one-offs are all made in the workshop, so the answer to most questions is yes. It is quoted per build, and it starts with a conversation about what you actually want the truck to do.
How to choose
Decide on stance first. If you want it standard, it is a Heritage; lifted a little, with off-road wheels, a Heritage X. If you want it lifted and kitted for the rough stuff, a Dakar; heavier duty, with a winch, a Dakar Pro. If you have a drawing in your head that none of those cover, it is a Dakar X.
Then ring the workshop. Every edition is priced on the phone against your colour, wheels, lift and interior, and if you would rather see a finished truck first, ask what is on the yard. The full comparison table is on the editions page.
