The workshop

Thirty-five years of building road and race vehicles, now pointed almost entirely at one truck. Everything here is done in house: the bodywork, the fabrication, the engines and the trim.

Six stations, one building

A truck moves through the building in the order below. Scroll and the photograph follows.

    On the ramp

Every truck starts in the air.

Before anyone quotes a job the truck goes up on the ramp and gets looked at from underneath, because that is where a K74 tells the truth. Arches, sills, chassis rails, the lot, photographed, and then a written price per job.

    • Up on the ramp before it is priced
    • Quoted per job, in writing
    • Owners welcome, wherever you bought it

    Chassis & running gear

    The chassis process

The chassis is stripped of all running gear components & sandblasted to bare steel, We only use the finest chassis’s to begin with, then we fully coat the chassis with Raptor seal, and build it back up to a the STC standard as It once was when It was new, every truck gets the same meticulous treatment ensuring Its new life ahead

    • Chassis back to bare steel, then treated
    • Suspension and brakes renewed
    • Nylon bushes throughout

    Fabrication

    Cut, folded and welded here.

Wide arch conversions, roll bars, bumpers, chequer-plate beds and boxes, and hand-made stainless exhaust systems. If you can describe it, ring and ask. The answer is usually yes, and it is made in this building rather than ordered in.

    • Wide bodies and roll bars
    • Stainless exhausts
    • Beds, boxes and one-offs in aluminium

    The engine bench

Every 4D56 comes apart on our own bench.

The Red Top programme: twenty-five line items from “remove engine” to “re fit engine”, with a crack-tested block, a rebuilt head and new bearings, rings and timing gear in between. Spec 2 adds the larger turbo and the FUELSAVE remap for 161 bhp and 30 mpg.

    Paint

Masked, primed and painted in house.

Bodywork and paint are done here rather than sent out, so the colour on the arches matches the colour on the doors and the truck does not spend three weeks on somebody else’s forecourt. Gloss black is the house colour; anything else is to order.

    • Bodywork and paint in house
    • Any colour to order
    • Arches painted with the truck, not separately
  6. Cream leather seats with embroidered STC logos in a red Mitsubishi L200

    Interior

Leather, colours and trim to order.

The interior is the last thing to go in and the first thing an owner touches. Seats are retrimmed in leather with colours and stitching to order, and the cab is put back together with new fittings rather than the ones that came out.

    • Leather retrim
    • Colours and stitching to order

Underneath

The part nobody photographs

A K74 is bought from underneath. The paint tells you what someone wanted you to see; the chassis tells you what they did. These are ours, on the ramp.

Exclusive, built to order
STC Wolf Edition L200, airbrushed and finished in gloss black One of one

Wolf Edition

A customer wanted something nobody else had. Airbrushed through the paint rather than stuck on, so it sits under the lacquer and it will still be there in ten years.

STC Fall Guy Edition, a gold L200 built from a bare coated chassis Bare chassis up

Fall Guy Edition

Stripped to the last bolt. The chassis came out, went away to be coated, and came back gold. Then every arm, damper and brake went on new before the body went near it.

An STC Dakar Camper conversion with a hand-built aluminium body Made from flat sheet

Dakar Camper

A camper body cut, folded and welded from aluminium here in the workshop, then trimmed and wired to work off grid. Built around the truck rather than bolted onto it.

An STC Dakar Edition on location

We are building towards the Dakar Rally. It is the reason the Dakar Edition exists and the reason the engine programme keeps moving. A rally car has to survive what a road truck never sees.

Progress gets posted as it happens in the L200 Owners group, 150,000 followers strong. Sponsorship and trade enquiries welcome.
